Unique Inns With a "Sense of Place"

Today’s sophisticated traveller is looking for a unique experience when on a trip. This, translates into not only visiting a destination and staying in a nice resort, more importantly it means having the opportunity to enjoy a different view of life, having a chance to see the world with different eyes. In order to make this experience complete, there are several aspects that must be fulfilled: the hospitality establishment should be unique, preferably, it should have a “sense of place” which I would translate into being in a unique location and at the same time having its own personality, a special charm that makes you feel at home while at the same time providing a degree of surprise and astonishment. The other specific factor is that you have an opportunity to experience the way that your hosts live, and this is achieved only if you stay in a small hotel, where you actually have the opportunity to interact with the owners and other members of the community.

There are many different places where you can find these unique properties. Many small inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels in the old world provide this kind of experience. There is no doubt that if you are visiting Prague or Budapest, for example, the experience of staying in an inn or bed and breakfast in the old city exceeds that of doing so in a modern high rise hotel on the outskirts of town, where you will not have a chance to walk the streets, meet the people, dine in the small eateries that they do and visit their bars and pubs.

The same is true for all of Latin America. You can choose between staying in a modern facility with a known franchise name, such as Sheraton, Hyatt or Marriott, or you can decide in favour or small bed and breakfasts or inns in pleasant old colonial homes with a character to themselves. The difference between the two is so vast, that they are actually worlds apart!

When it comes to seeking a spot in a rural area, the same is true. The question is how do you find these unique, special, fantastic little hotels and inns in a truly outstanding location, which comply with our definition of “sense of place”?

A group of small hotels in Latin America, all of which understand the concept of “sense of place” have gotten together to market themselves under the umbrella of “My Unique Places” Each and everyone of these properties has been carefully hand picked, and all of those that have been included are proud bearers of the My Unique Places badge. The founding members of this truly unique boutique hotels partnership are Mr. Carlos Barberis, owner and manager of the Casa del Bosque, located in the Argentine Patagonia (www.casadelbosque.com), Flavia Cueva, owner and manager of the world renown Hacienda San Lucas in the lovely town of Copan Ruinas, Honduras (www.haciendasanlucas.com) and Anna McVittie, from the charming Cocolobo resort in Roatan, Honduras  (www.cocolobo.com). Other members are from the countries of Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Honduras. La Villa de Soledad, located in the Cangrejal River Valley, (www.lavilladesoledad.com) just 5 miles from the City of La Ceiba is proud to announce that it has been included to this select group of hotels. We invite you to visit My Unique Places web page at www.myuniqueplaces.com to learn more about the different properties that form this select group of truly special boutique hotels with a sense of place!

Trip Advisor gives La Villa de Soledad B&B 2 (yes two) certificates for 2014!

A big thank you to all our guests that have taken their time to write a review about their stay at La Villa de Soledad B&B! Despite the fact that we are a relatively new property, we have been awarded two different Trip Advisor certificates in 2014!

We were pleased to have been signaled out as winners of the 2014 Travelers Choice award for Bed and Breakfasts in La Ceiba Honduras, were we came up in first place. Perhaps even more outstanding than this is the fact that we came up on the list for Bed and Breakfasts in Honduras in second place, after the famous La Casa de Cafe, that has offered outstanding service in Copan Ruinas for over 10 years!

The second award we were granted is the 2014 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, given to properties that consistently get outstanding comments from their guests!

Soledad and I have put our hearts into putting together a truly special, unique property to make people feel at home. We only have 4 rooms available, insuring a quiet, comfortable and pleasant stay in an uncrowded environment. She is an outstanding cook and loves to make our guests delicious, home made food. The setting that we have is truly unique, on a small bluff overlooking the Cangrejal River and looking straight into Pico Bonito National Park.

The rooms are all part of our home, each is different, but they all have a private bath with hot water, direct access to our gardens and a porch with a hammock. For pictures and more information about La Villa de Soledad, visit our web page at www.lavilladesoledad.com or our facebook page: www.facebook.com/LaVilladeSoledad.

La Ceiba, Tropical Paradise on the Caribbean!

There is a city in Honduras that is known for its friendly people, festive mood and best of all, abundant nature. There are actually 4 very diverse protected areas within its reach, including cloud forest, tropical rain forest, marine coastal lagoons, mangrove canals, and some of the most pristine coral reef systems in the Caribbean. The City has its name from a huge, massive, tree that provided shade to its founding fathers, a Ceiba tree, considered a sacred tree by the ancient Maya,s that inhabited Western Honduras.

The City of La Ceiba has played an important role in Honduran history, despite the fact that it is a relatively young city. This was the original capital of the original Banana Republic, where the Banana industry first started developing what is today modern Honduras. It was here where the most important modern day companies in Honduras where born, such as Banco Atlantida, the first and oldest bank in the country, Cerveceria Hondureña the Honduran brewery that brews all 4 national beer brands: Salvavida, Imperial, Port Royal and Barena.

Today La Ceiba is going through a change in its economy, with the Standard Fruit Company (Owners of Dole) are less and less influential, and the tourism industry is acquiring more relevance. La Ceiba is one of the most diverse areas in Central America, here you can find a modern city with first class hotels within the city, beach resorts on lovely expanses of beach, crystal clear creeks, magnificent white water rafting, hot springs in the jungle, Garifuna villages, and much, much more...

La Ceiba is known for its famous Carnival that takes place the third or fourth week in May. The city commemorates its patron saint, San Isidro, whose day is celebrated on the 15th of May. If you are looking for a good time, you should definitively consider visiting La Ceiba next weekend, May 23rd and 24th. You will have the time of your life!
